Celebrating India’s unique cocoa heritage and chocolatiers bringing local flavours to Salon du Chocolat India.
Salon du Chocolat, the world’s largest chocolate celebration, is making its India debut this January 16–17, 2026, at the Jio World Convention Centre, Mumbai, and it’s bringing with it the rich, homegrown flavours of Indian cocoa.
“Indian cocoa is more than an ingredient — it’s a story of culture, craftsmanship, and creativity,” says Satish Menon, Project Head – Salon Du Chocolat India. “Salon du Chocolat India will showcase how our chocolatiers are transforming local flavours into world-class creations, putting India firmly on the global chocolate map.”
From the shade of coconut palms in Kerala to the boutique chocolatier counters in Mumbai, Indian cocoa is having its moment in the global chocolate conversation. Salon du Chocolat India is proud to shine the spotlight on this unsung hero of the chocolate world, inviting visitors to discover its roots, its flavours, and its growing role in shaping the country’s chocolate culture.
A Cocoa Story Rooted in Tradition
Introduced by the British in the 18th century, cocoa first took root in Kerala and Tamil Nadu before spreading to Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. Today, India produces over 20,000 tonnes of cocoa annually, often grown under coconut trees, a climate-smart and sustainable farming method that benefits both crops.
Cocoa trees can live for up to 100 years, with their finest beans coming in the first 30 years, and cocoa pods growing directly from the trunk, a rare and beautiful botanical sight.
A Taste of India in Every Bite
Just like its landscapes, Indian cocoa offers diverse flavours, citrusy from one region, earthy and spiced from another. This diversity is inspiring a new wave of artisanal, bean-to-bar, and gourmet chocolate makers who are blending tradition with innovation.
From mithai-inspired creations like peda bonbons, rose truffles, and laddoo ganache to minimalist bars made with just cocoa beans and sugar, Indian chocolatiers are crafting a truly unique chocolate identity.
